2nd Practice (6/6/08)

It looks like there is a small chance of thunderstorms today. (The weather outlook is much better than Tuesday's was.) We will operate as long as it is not thunderstorming or raining heavily.

We are still accepting registrations. If you know anyone who still wants to register, they may do so through next week.

I will see you all this evening.

First Practice

Our first practice is scheduled for tonight. I will be watching the weather closely. We will try to squeeze in our practice if the weather permits. Obviously, if it is thunderstorming or raining heavily, there will be no practice. If it is raining lightly or off-and-on, please use your discretion as to whether you want to bring your child or not. We will most likely be there either way, at least for a small time, organizing things. If the weather is too bad for practice, and you want to just come and register, that will be fine. We will be at the lower concession stand. We will be accepting registration forms for the first two weeks.

Upcoming 2008 Season

The OVTC will be returning for the summer of 2008. As soon as we have the official approval of the Brooke County Board of Education, we will begin distributing the registration forms. As it looks now, our first practice will be Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:00PM.

We are optimistic about being able to offer instruction for the shot put and discus this season. That means will most likely offer these events in the track meets, as well.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at OVTrackClub@gmail.com.

Halfway Mark of the Season

Well, our 2007 season is a little over halfway over. We finally got a meet in against another team, and I believe it went pretty well. All of our athletes gave great performances. The coaching staff is proud of all athletes.

I have been able get in contact with the Steubenville Striders' coach. We have been invited to an invitational meet at Steubenville on the 4th of July. Information will be available soon at the concession stand regarding this meet. Steubenville has also been invited to our July 10th meet at home. It was originally scheduled as a dual meet against Wellsville, but now it will be a triangular meet against both Wellsville and Steubenville.

First Week of the Season

We've finished our first week of practices. It looks like we have a wonderful group of athletes and parents. I have to say I'm very pleased with the membership numbers this year. I was caught a little off guard by how many people signed up at practice Tuesday and Thursday, but I'm happy that they did. The more, the merrier.

We now have close to 75 children signed up for the track club. Several people have been asking if they can still sign up their children. We're going to extend the registration period for a little while longer. We do not want to exclude any children who want to participate. Please pass this on to your friends.

Thank you for a great first week.

First Practice Tomorrow

Our first practice is tomorrow, Tuesday June 5th at 7:00pm at the Brooke High School track. We will meet on the track near the lower concession stand. We will be accepting new registrations at practice on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

Our youth hurdles are in the process of getting a facelift. After many years of outdoor use, they were beginning to rust and fall apart. They have been sanded, repainted, and I will be buying new bolts for them today. They will look like new and be ready for use Thursday at practice.

We will have the lower concession stand open for all practices and meets. We will be selling 20oz. bottles of Powerade and 16.9oz. bottles of Dasani for a $1.00 each. All proceeds from these sales will go toward the purchase of new equipment for the track club. If you would like to donate a baked good for sale in the concession stand at one of our meets, please speak with someone at the concession stand.

See you tomorrow!!!

Registration

Registration forms have now been placed in the main offices of Brooke High, Follansbee Middle, and Wellsburg Middle schools, and announcements for the club should have been made. I've been going to each of the county's elementary schools and providing enough forms for each student. I have just a few schools left to get forms to. I've also left some registration forms at the Follansbee and Wellsburg libraries, as well as, the Follansbee Kwik King. Alternatively, there is a printable version of the registration form located on the OVTC Homepage (link found to on the right side of this page) under the "Download Forms" link.

I have been receiving registration forms in the mail almost everyday, and I've been receiving emails, too. Interest seems to be pretty high, but I'm not sure if everyone is getting information about the club. The information doesn't always make it home from the schools. Some people have been finding out through neighbors, friends, and family. I have spoken to many different media outlets about advertising the club, but I still have not seen any of them mention it. I encourage everyone to help spread the word about the club. The more athletes we have, the more competition and more fun there is.

I'll see you all on June 5th at 7pm!
